Review: Breeding Cycle

This book captured me and wouldn't let go, despite the editing issues that it possessed. It has a unique take on werewolves that I loved, especially from a paranormal erotica reader's point of view. However, parts of this book are a hot mess, and not in the good way~though there certainly is that as well. My biggest pet peeve was the point of view shifts from one character to the other on the same page, and sometimes even in the same paragraph. There are other small editing issues such as repeated words or phrases, missing words, extra words, etc..

So why did I keep reading? The sex was smoking hot and very well written (aside from the above mentioned issues). T.A. has writing talent for certain, and that good writing (despite the issues that could have been hashed out by a good editor) kept me reading. The plot kept me reading as well. I have to admit, I needed to know what happened to these two characters. Which means the author did her job and made me care about them.

It is incredibly rare for me to keep reading a novel with multiple editing issues, which is a huge reason this one deserved a review. That shows the power of the plotting and writing, and the potential of the author.

This book was free at the time of this review. I downloaded a second book by T.A. that was free as well. I will read it to see if the same issues remain in this next book before I decide if I will purchase any of the author's books that are for sale.

This novel contains one masturbation scene and several explicit m/f sex scenes.

Review: Otherkin, Tranquility

I liked Anya Basts's writing enough (see the review for Otherkin, Fury)  that I downloaded this, her second free novel, and decided to give it a shot. If it hadn't been free, I wouldn't have purchased it because the first one was in such dire need of editing (grammar errors mostly).

There were still quite a few grammar mistakes in this second novel, which is why it only earned 3.5 flames. As far as the story goes though, I enjoyed it even more than I did the first one. The plot was a bit deeper, which worked to hold my interest without relying on the sexual tension alone. Not to say the sexual tension wasn't present. It certainly was, and it was fantastic, leading to even more fantastic sex.

Did it do its job and make me want to buy her books? Sort of. She has a few books for under $4 that I might take a chance on if I had nothing else to read to see if they are edited better. As for her more expensive works, the lesser expensive ones would have to prove to be edited well before      I invested anything more.

At 85 pages on my Nook with only a few pages of back matter, it was a good short novella length, especially for being free.

Contains one explicit m/f sex scene.

Hump Day Hook May 17th

It's hump day and that means it's time to get humping again, for the Hump Day Hook that is. Not sure what it is? Click this link to find out and to read the other steamy excerpts. Today I'm giving you another look at my new novella, Werewolf Wedding (which you can now download the first 5,000 words for free on B&N / KoboSmashwords under the title Werewolf Wedding: Maid of Honor! The free excerpt is coming soon to Amazon as well. You can also purchase the entire novella at most retailers).

A quick intro to this scene: Wisia is the maid of honor who is married to Hasin. She has been planning the wedding through letters with Gerik. Here you go:

Dropping her head low, Wisia hid behind a curtain of her blond hair as she checked once again to ensure her husband wasn’t taking offense. However, he had no eyes for her this day it seemed. Good, she preferred it that way.
Gerik stepped close, offering her his arm. Seeing Hasin already waddling off after a pair of women, she looped her arm through the crook of Gerik’s elbow. The swell of his taut bicep was hard against her shoulder. It sent the most wonderful tingling to her navel. She looked up at him, unable to stop herself from wondering if his lips tasted as sweet as they looked.
“And I admire a man who practices them,” she finally answered.
On the arm of the most alluring man she’d ever met, she was whisked toward the castle behind the entourage of the promised couple. A breeze blew up her skirts, teasing her thighs and making her acutely aware that her panties had grown wet. Perhaps this wedding wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Now don't forget to pick up your free copy of Werewolf Wedding: Maid of Honor (B&N / Kobo / Smashwords~has Kindle version) to see how well Wisia and Gerik get on, then drop by this link to check out all the other hot excerpts!

Review: Larkspur by Anny Cook

I almost didn't review this one because it wasn't quite for me. But, it had some good points so my review is based on those, not on what wasn't for me. There are several books out there by Ellora's Cave (publisher) with this cover because they are part of their Naughty Nooners series. I kind of hate that because it can be hard to tell at first glance what you're getting. So, if you see this cover, be sure to check the title to make sure which one you are getting. At the time of this read and review, Larkspur was free.

Keep in mind while reading this that it is a short story, pretty much meant to be read in one sitting. Hence the series title, Naughty Nooners.

This story is like a porno in a lot of ways, short on the plot and details, and straight to the sex. There is a plot behind this story, it just doesn't go much into it. No time in a Naughty Nooners I guess. If you're looking for stimulation in the sexual sense and not the literary sense, then this might be for you. But be forewarned, the opening scene will disturb some (as it did me) because it deals with sex with a dragon, while one is human and the other is dragon. Mystical beasts are still beasts after all, which makes that a bestiality scene, penetration or no.

However, that first scene allows the dragon to transform into a human and the remainder of the sex scenes are all human/human. So, if that kind of thing doesn't bother you, or if you just want to skip the first scene, and are looking for some hot, quick reading, this might appeal to you. Did it do its job and entice me to read more by this author? No. But, perhaps it will for you.

You can find Larkspur (currently free) at:

Time To Take A Bow

I've been nominated for a blog award! Thank you Catherine Green! Normally I don't do these, but this one is for a wonderful cause. The Liebster Award is for bloggers with fewer than 300 followers. The nominee must link back to whoever awarded them, write 11 random facts about themselves, answer the 11 questions from the award giver, and then nominate another 11 bloggers and make up 11 questions for them to answer. It is fun, informative, and an excellent way to network and grow your audience.

I'm going to break the rules and change it up a bit because I know how it is to have about the time it takes to drink one cup of coffee to read blogs, and no more than that. I'm leaving off the random facts and choosing three of  Catherine's fabulous questions to answer.

Why did you start your blog?
To connect with others who love erotic fantasy, both those who read and write it.

Why should we read your blog?
Because you love erotic fantasy. ;)

Who do you admire?
Author Jessica E. Subject. She is part of the reason I came to love erotic sci-fi. No pun intended. Okay, maybe a little one. ;)

I'm passing it on to the lovely:

I'd love to pass it on to more, but alas, I am fresh out of followers with blog links.

Hump Day Hook: Werewolf Wedding Take 2

It's hump day and that means it's time to get humping, for the Hump Day Hook that is. Not sure what it is? Click this link to find out and to read the other steamy excerpts. Today I'm giving you another look at my new novella, Werewolf Wedding (which you can now download the first 5,000 words for free on Smashwords! The free excerpt is coming soon to Amazon & B&N. You can now purchase the entire novella at most retailers):

When Varina introduced her to Gerik, she curtsied deeply to him, enjoying the way his eyes slid to her generous cleavage as she bent over. To his credit, his gaze came back to meet hers, the light in his eyes brightening. He took her offered hand in both of his and brought it to his lips. Warm and slick, his tongue darted out and marked the back of her hand with a scorching brand that sent fire straight to her core.
Flushing, her eyes darted to Hasin, but her plump husband was too busy ogling one of the young, buxom women of Javas’s pack. Her gaze returned to Gerik and she was surprised to see a thoughtful expression upon his face, his head cocked.

Review: Bloodstorm by Amber Kallyn

At the time I read this it was free on B&N and Amazon. I downloaded it because I was interested in Amber's work and wanted to see if her books would appeal to me. As far as free reads go, this one blew me away. It is not what I've come to expect in a free read, and I mean that in a very good way.

Bloodstorm had just the right mixture of action and character building to make it an enjoyable novel. Though the attraction was instant (which in reality is often the case so that didn't bother me at all) the romance took its time to build and develop. There were times I wanted to slap the two main characters and tell them to get together already, but then that's a great sign that the author has done their job of building the right amount of tension. I loved the mixture of vampire, werewolves, and a touch of native mythology.

There was only one sex scene, which is a bit light for a 190 page novel, as far as erotica goes, but perfect for a romance novel I suppose. However, it was a great scene that was well worth the wait. One thing that bugs me as a reader, even after finishing, I have no idea what the title (the first word that is) has to do with the book. But, as an author, I completely understand how hard titles can be. I would recommend this for those who enjoy paranormal, romance, and erotica.

Contains one explicit m/f sex scene.

Hump Day Hook: Werewolf Wedding First Look

It's hump day and that means it's time to get humping, for the Hump Day Hook that is. Not sure what it is? Click this link to find out and to read the other steamy excerpts. Today I'm giving you the first look at my upcoming novella, Werewolf Wedding (releasing this month!):

Wisia took measure of each pack member, counting again as she did so. She had been right the first time. There were twenty of them and Varina would make twenty-one. That would complicate the seating chart.
Mated pairs stood close to one another, several touching, many more draped about each other in a number of fashions. The Alpha, and Varina’s mate-to-be, stood at the entrance to the cobbled path. He was blond, tall and muscular, and his power shown from within him like a beacon. Odd that she should think of it that way, but that was exactly how it felt to Wisia, like a beacon. From his warm smile to his easy stance, she liked him immediately. Beside him stood a lone man who was easy to spot, and hard to peel her eyes from.
Brown hair hung down into eyes the color of a deep lake. He was built strong, shoulders coiling with hard muscle, but also lithe like one who ran frequently. The hilt of a sword peeked up above each of his shoulders. Full, very kissable lips pulled up into a grin as his eyes met Wisia’s.
Fire burned through her cheeks, tightening her nipples. Of their own accord, her eyes drifted to his groin, which boasted a nice swell. It made her wonder how big he would be aroused. Muttering a surprised curse, she cast her gaze away.  A gasp and muffled giggle sounded beside her, drawing her attention back to her sister. Varina grabbed her arm and leaned close to whisper in her ear.
“Looks like Gerik fancies you.”

Review: Wickedly Good by Anya Breton

I love the occasional foray into paranormal that isn't focused on vampires or werewolves. If done right it can be fun and refreshing. This erotic novella, Wickedly Good by Anya Breton, was certainly done right. As soon as I read that it was about witches, I was hooked. And it just got better from there.

This is a sweet romance that develops completely unbeknownst to the main character, Gemma. She thinks it's another man she's spending her steamy nights with... or does she? Under the cover of darkness she sneaks into the bed of her life-long crush. Knowing there must be a good man beneath the womanizer, she gives him far more credit than is due.

The problem is, he disappears in the light of day, leaving only his controlling, slightly frightening older brother to chaperon her.

I loved the reluctant way the two main characters came together
as well as the sparks between them both in and out of the dark. I hope the author has plans to write about the witches in the future because I would love to read more. It is Wickedly Good indeed, and that cover, yum.

Wickedly Good

This review was not solicited in any way and is my honest opinion of the book.
